Specs and roles
Forever keeps the classic Shaman trio. Totems, weapon imbues, and interrupts define the utility layer.
- Elemental: Ranged DPS. Lightning and lava burst fantasy with caster Mana habits.
- Enhancement: Melee DPS. Dual wield or two-hand Enhancement flavors depending on your build, shocks, and totem support.
- Restoration: Healer. Chain Heal, Healing Wave, and classic Resto triage for dungeons and raids.
Shamans unlock mail later; early leather is normal. Mana gates heals, shocks, and burst. Totems remain the classic group toolkit even when another healer or DPS outgears you.
Playable races
- Dwarf (Alliance) start in Dun Morogh (new Forever combo)
- Skyborne (Horde Windshaper only) start in Zephras Isle
- Orc (Horde) start in Durotar
- Tauren (Horde) start in Mulgore
- Troll (Horde) start in Durotar
Human, Night Elf, Gnome, Undead, and Alliance High Order Skyborne cannot be Shaman.
Race picks that matter
Dwarf Shaman is the Alliance Forever unlock: Stoneform and mace specialization on a mail hybrid that Classic reserved for Horde. Horde Skyborne Windshaper pairs Skysight and Walk on Air with totems from Zephras Isle. Orc Blood Fury and Hardiness remain strong Enhancement picks. Tauren War Stomp and Endurance fit Enhancement and Resto. Troll Berserking powers Elemental and Resto burst windows. Alliance High Order Skyborne cannot take Shaman; they take Mage instead. There is no Human, Night Elf, Gnome, or Undead Shaman in Forever. Full racial tooltips live on the Forever racial traits page and on each race guide.
