Official Blizzard What's Next coverage BlizzCon 2026 hub
World of Warcraft: Forever is Blizzard's answer to the long Classic+ ask: a permanent level-60 home in original Azeroth that sits beside modern WoW and Classic, and that keeps growing with new stories, dungeons, raids, and systems.
This article covers the BlizzCon 2026 What's Next panel and the official write-up that followed. Treat it as the BlizzCon snapshot. The longer Forever game hub comes later.
What Forever is (and is not)
Blizzard's line is clear. Forever is not a mode, not a season, and not "another Classic realm type." It is a permanent product in original Azeroth.
The setting sits after Warcraft III Reforged: Forsaken Kingdom and before Molten Core. You play on the original continents, climb to level 60, and stay there while Blizzard keeps adding content. Catch-up means playing: leveling, grouping, exploring, and clearing what is in front of you.
Four design pillars from the panel:
- Approachable and familiar: new content should feel like it belongs in Classic. No flying mounts. No level scaling.
- World as the main character: leveling matters as much as endgame, and smaller local stories count.
- Journey before the destination: level 60 forever.
- Protect and nurture social experiences: design for meeting, helping, and grouping in the open world.

New places: Hyjal, Shen'dralas, Riverglades, Zephras
Forever is not "vanilla with a patch note." The panel leaned on unfinished corners of Kalimdor and the Eastern Kingdoms, with more than a thousand new quests across levels 1-60.
Mount Hyjal (Renewed) covers the aftermath of Archimonde, works as an endgame zone, hosts Hyjal Summit, and connects into Barrow Deeps.
Shen'dralas sits between Mulgore and Desolace. It ties into Shen'dralar, Eldre'Thalas, and Dire Maul space, plus the centaur tribes, and gives new reasons to care about Maraudon.
Riverglades is a mid-30s to mid-40s frontier leveling region: rivers, settlers, goblin trade, and ogre civilization pressure, with a large new quest load.
Zephras Isle is the Skyborne starting experience (about levels 1-12). Expect an elemental crisis fantasy, Skywall-inspired architecture, and the on-ramp for the new race.
Skyborne: the new playable race
Skyborne choose Horde or Alliance at creation.
- Horde Skyborne lean elemental and Earthen Ring, and can be Shamans
- Alliance Skyborne lean arcane and Kirin Tor, and can be Mages
- Both sides can also play Warrior, Hunter, Rogue, and Druid, including new Skyborne druid forms
Racials, customizations, voices, dances, and visuals are part of the pitch. Optional upgrade packs sell early access to the race and the Zephras starting experience.
Dungeons, raids, and PvP
The panel called out a large dungeon slate that opens classic map whitespace, including places like:
- Ruins of Lordaeron
- Hall of Thanes
- Wetlands excavation content
- Drowned City
- Alcaz Island Prison
- Shaper's Terrace in Un'Goro
- Krol'dok Stronghold
- Blackmaw Hold
Exact names and level bands will keep getting cleaned up in Deep Dive coverage. Treat this list as "these corners become real instances," then update from official dungeon pages as Blizzard posts them.
Raids called out for the early Forever era:
- Barrow Deeps: 10-player
- Hyjal Summit: 20-player
- Onyxia's Lair: 40-player
Those unlock with the December 9 raid window. Tier sets and a legendary reward were teased without a full spoiler dump.
PvP: classic battlegrounds return, plus a new 15v15 island battleground (Darkspear / Darkspire Islands in coverage) that mixes control-point and flag-style objectives.
Systems that change day-to-day play
These are the bits that change how Forever feels after the trailer fades:
- Campsites: craft a camp in the world. Other players can visit, craft, and share buffs.
- Legacy progression: alt and account unlocks for players who live in the 1-60 journey.
- Opt-in transmog: see transmog only if you opt in. Otherwise people look like their real gear.
- HD or SD character model choice, with restored Classic animations on HD models.
- Official gamepad support.
- Class updates aimed at meaningful talents and clearer identity, plus stronger and more unique racials.
- Small environment rendering upgrades (flowing rivers, mist, moonlight) without abandoning Classic art direction.
Editions and beta access
Base Forever access at launch is included with a normal WoW subscription or Game Time. Optional Battle.net upgrades:
- Skyborne Heroic Pack: Skyborne and Zephras start, early name reservation, mount and cosmetics and housing bits, one Invite-a-Friend launch code
- Skyborne Epic Pack: Heroic contents plus beta from September 17, 30 days of Game Time from November 4, more cosmetics, three invite codes
- Warcraft Forever Collection (limited-time): Epic contents plus Warcraft III Reforged, Forsaken Kingdom, and housing figurines for modern WoW
Decide whether you actually want beta and the Skyborne early path before you buy a pack.
How this fits the rest of BlizzCon WoW
Forever is the Classic-inspired permanent lane. Separately, BlizzCon also covered Midnight: Eclipse (12.2) and The Last Titan (13.0) for modern WoW. Keep those articles and hubs distinct so readers (and Google) do not mash the products together.
A live Q&A with the WoW team is scheduled for September 17 at 10:00 a.m. PDT on official Warcraft Twitch and YouTube if you want follow-up answers after the show.
