Aberrations Join Battlegrounds BlizzCon 2026 hub
BlizzCon 2026 gave Hearthstone a full roadmap lane: an Old Gods expansion, a wild new Discover-style keyword, Battlegrounds corruption, a co-op 2v2 experiment, and the first new class in years. This is the MinMax snapshot of what Blizzard locked in.
The headline stack
If you only keep six Hearthstone notes from BlizzCon:

Reign of the Black Empire
The next constructed expansion is Reign of the Black Empire. Theme: ancient Azeroth when Old Gods collide with Titans. Trailer and panel framing put all four Old Gods back in the spotlight, with designs that can carry multiple powers and swing a turn hard.
Target launch called out in Journey Ahead coverage: October 20, 2026 (PT). Use that as the working date until the official pre-purchase blog freezes the countdown.
Assemble
Assemble is the expansion's mechanical headline. Developers framed it as a bold Discover expansion: pull from a curated pool of more than 250 cards, then combine pieces so text and effects merge onto a resulting card.
Practical read for players:
- Expect high variance and combo discovery, not a tiny fixed fusion list
- Support cards in the unrevealed set are meant to feed Assemble lines
- This is the "break the tavern in week one" keyword
Battlegrounds: Aberrations (September 22)
Aberrations are not a Standard minion type. They are the newest Battlegrounds minion type.
Official launch: Patch 36.6.1 on September 22, 2026.
Core fantasy:
- Discard / sacrifice synergies
- Aberration deaths advance a Deity
- Two Deities: C'Thun and Y'Shaarj (one answers at random each game)
- After three sacrifices, the Deity joins with a warping combat effect
Also locked in for that patch window:
- Aberrations forced into every lobby for the first two weeks
- Naga rotated out of the pool while Aberrations are in
- New heroes (including Drest'agath and Kith'ix) guaranteed in every lobby for two weeks

2v2 Tavern Brawl
Hearthstone is testing 2v2 as a limited Tavern Brawl after the expansion, not as an instant permanent mode.
Coverage from the Journey Ahead panel:

- Week one: Blizzard preconstructed decks so everyone can play
- Week two: custom decks

Blizzard's ask is feedback. Treat permanence as unconfirmed until they say it graduates.
Monk class (March 2027)
Monk is the next post-launch class, first new class since Death Knight (2022).
