BlizzCon 2026 did not tease a Warcraft III campaign for later. Forsaken Kingdom launched on Opening Ceremony day, September 12: the first new Warcraft III story in more than two decades, live on Battle.net while the show floor was still running demos. The headline stack
If you only keep five notes from the weekend:
- Live now (September 12, 2026), not a 2027 placeholder
- Story fills the gap after Arthas returns to Lordaeron and before early World of Warcraft
- Structure: Last Days of Lordaeron prologue (4 linear missions) + main Forsaken Kingdom campaign (soft open-world RPG, Rexxar-campaign DNA)
- Patch 3.0 ships Definitive Edition graphics for Reforged players at no extra cost
- New Tavern hero: Forsaken Paladin (first new multiplayer hero since 2004)
Project lead Brad Chan's panel line is the product size check: about 30 hours of gameplay and nearly an hour of in-game cinematics. The Forsaken Kingdom Deep Dive is where Blizzard locked the structure, graphics mode, and Paladin kit in writing.
What the campaign actually covers
Official framing: what happened after Arthas came home, how Lordaeron becomes Undercity space, and how the Forsaken stop being Scourge leftovers and become a people.
Last Days of Lordaeron (prologue)
Four traditional linear missions. You play the Capital City Guard angle as the prince returns, including the throne-room beat everyone already knows ends badly for anyone on duty.
Locations called out across the prologue pass:
- Capital of Lordaeron
- The sewers that become Undercity
- Andorhal
- Stratholme after the culling
This is the setup reel. The main campaign is the aftermath.
Forsaken Kingdom (main campaign)
Soft open-world single-player RPG structure inspired by The Frozen Throne's Rexxar campaign, without pretending it is a Rexxar remake. Expect exploration, expanded inventory / gear slots, hero kits, and talents built for that RPG loop.
New leads pushed in the What's Next and Deep Dive coverage:
- Garek Bandarion, newly risen Forsaken warrior
- Dark Ranger Anya
Familiar names sharing the board include Sylvanas Windrunner, Putress, Varimathras, Sally Whitemane, Renault Mograine, Arthas, Kel'Thuzad, Ras Frostwhisper, and Baron Rivendare.
Panel beats the campaign is meant to answer:
- How Undercity gets founded
- How Forsaken culture forms after everything is already gone
- Why the Scourge does not simply take Lordaeron back
- Why the water is green
Treat those as story promises from the show, not a spoiler dump of mission order.
Patch 3.0: Definitive Edition and multiplayer
Forsaken Kingdom is the paid campaign. Patch 3.0 is the free Reforged upgrade that landed with it.
Definitive Edition graphics
New graphics mode for Forsaken Kingdom and existing Reforged content. Design goal stated on stage: keep classic readability, bold silhouettes, and unit identity, then push fidelity. Coverage notes rebuild work across hundreds of units, plus lighting, fog, day-night, and more vertical map language. Classic graphics still exist. Cross-graphics play stays supported.
World Editor gets the same tools used to build the new campaign maps, which matters more for the custom-map crowd than for anyone who only finishes the story once.
Forsaken Paladin
First new Tavern hero in more than 20 years (last tavern wave was Firelord / Goblin Tinker / Alchemist in 2004). Free in multiplayer. Story origin threads sit inside Forsaken Kingdom and continue toward World of Warcraft: Forever.
Abilities from the Deep Dive:
- Righteous Fury: charge, damage, slow
- Consecration: instant ground AoE that heals allies and damages enemies; friendly undead take no Consecration damage and also get no heal from it
- Sacred Aura: nearby magic resistance
- Cleansing Fire: heal and buff allies, stun enemies, dispel, and smash summons
Also in 3.0: unit selection limit moves from 12 to 24.
How to buy it
Battle.net paths Blizzard is selling:
- Forsaken Kingdom campaign add-on (if you already own Reforged)
- Warcraft III: Reforged base, now including the Definitive Edition update
- Forsaken Kingdom Combo (Reforged + campaign)
- Limited-time Warcraft Forever Collection (Reforged, Forsaken Kingdom, Forever Skyborne Epic Pack, housing figurines)
Forsaken Kingdom requires Reforged. Forever is a separate WoW product with its own subscription / Game Time rules.
How this fits BlizzCon
Most BlizzCon drops are trailers and calendars. This one is a finished campaign you can boot the same night. Story-wise it is also the on-ramp into Forever's pre-Molten Core Azeroth. Keep RTS launch coverage here, Forever systems on the Forever page, and the rest of the weekend on the BlizzCon 2026 hub.
