The request for Player Housing has been going around the community for several years and expansions. Finally, in World of Warcraft: Midnight, the long-awaited WoW housing system will be added to the game! Building your own house, away from the conflict of Azeroth (and Draenor and Argus and K'aresh), a place to rest and quietly read a book. WoW Player Housing is a content-first, evergreen feature where you can be in public neighborhoods with random people or in a neighborhood with your guild and friends. Finally, we will get a proper version of Housing in World of Warcraft!
Player-Owned Housing, version 2
Back in Warlords of Draenor, one of the most anticipated features was Blizzard's version of WoW player housing in the form of Garrisons. This highly important feature for the expansion at the time turned out to be one of the most hated features to have ever existed in any of the World of Warcraft installments. There was so much wrong with the Garrisons system. Even though you could visit each other, most of what you could do, was only possible in your own Garrison. People spent hours crafting, gathering, building for their Garrison, on multiple characters, almost never visiting a major city. This resulted in a major drop in player interaction and made the game feel empty, even though it had several million active subs back then.
The new version of housing, however, seems to be a way better fit and not just a 2nd version of garrisons, but an actual proper feature. An evergreen feature, that is supposed to last past the expansion it is released in. More content, styles and furniture can be added in later patches and expansions to make sure the feature always feels fresh and improving. More rooms, bigger houses and maybe even general buildings can be added with potential interesting perks and benefits. In the WoW Midnight Housing vs Warlords of Draenor Garrisons comparison, the utility and ideas are endless, something that Garrisons never brought.
Release date and Pre-Order
The WoW Midnight release date is set for "early 2026," when Player Housing will finally be available, with the pre-order page stating on or before June 30th. However, for those of you who want it just a bit earlier, you can already enjoy the feature in 11.2.7, which is scheduled for late 2025, by pre-ordering the game. Either way, whether you pre-order or not, collecting furniture and objects to place down, will unlock in 11.2.7 for everyone and you will be able to use what you collect later, even if you do not pre-order at all. So there is no real content loss in the end.
Neighborhoods
Neighborhoods are part of the new World of Warcraft housing system, areas where multiple players can place their house. You always have to settle into a neighborhood. There are public and private Neighborhoods. Public neighborhoods are with random people. The more secluded private Neighborhoods are with either a group of friends or with your Guild. More options come with the Guild Neighborhoods, and since there are Endeavors that need to be completed for more Neighborhood rewards, doing it with your guild is most likely the best option, by a long shot. Completing Endeavors will reward you with Neighborhood Favor, which is like a renown system for your Neighborhood and will unlock more benefits or customization options as a group as well as for individual players.
Currently, things like profession tables are not decided yet if this will be part of your Neighborhood. But the fact that it is not a hard 'no', means it is being considered. Another thing clearly under consideration, as it has not been fully rejected yet, is communal spaces in Neighborhoods. Maybe a Guild Hall or Taverns could be part of the Neighborhood one day!
Last, the place where you can settle, is of course based on if someone already lives there. People can see and visit each other's houses (although you are in full control of whether they can or not). But you can also decide to live a bit more secluded, in the forest or next to the water.
Unlocking Furniture
For WoW Housing customization, there will be multiple styles of furniture, already available at launch in 11.2.7. Several have been shown at GamesCom 2025. All of these categories can be mixed and matched, you are not restricted to any one of them. So if you want a barbaric bedroom while you have a stylish kitchen, this is certainly possible.
The WoW furniture and customization options can be unlocked in a variety of ways and Blizzard has stated that it is not meant to be a revenue feature, so most (if not all) furniture can be unlocked within the game. Several things might be high-end rewards, but most of the Furniture that you can unlock, is meant to be obtained from Achievements, Delves, and other World Content. Although there might be a special reward for a high end Mythic Plus dungeoneer or a high end Mythic Raider, this means most people, will be able to unlock most furniture, by playing the game. A true evergreen and 'for everyone' feature to look forward to!
