Overwatch 2 Season 2: Ramattra Brings the Robot Revolution

Overwatch 2's second season launched December 6, 2022, with a tank who can't decide if he wants to poke from range or punch you in the face. Meet Ramattra, the leader of Null Sector and Zenyatta's angsty brother who chose violence.

Two Heroes for the Price of One

Ramattra's gimmick? He transforms between Omnic form (staff-wielding backline tank) and Nemesis form (hulking close-range brawler). Omnic form pokes with projectiles and drops barriers. Nemesis form punches energy waves and blocks damage like a walking shield.

His kit includes:

  • Ravenous Vortex: Ground-targeted slow that pulls enemies down (goodbye, Pharah)
  • Annihilation (Ultimate): Spreading nanobots that damage enemies and cut their damage by 50%

It's the most interesting tank design since Sigma, actually requiring brain cells to maximize both forms.

The First Paywall Hero

Here's where Blizzard showed their hand. Original Overwatch players lost their "all heroes free" privilege with the Release of Overwatch 2. Want Ramattra? Grind to tier 55 of the battle pass or cough up $10 for instant access. The community reaction was exactly what you'd expect - torches and pitchforks.

Shambali Monastery Arrives

The new Escort map takes us to Ramattra and Zenyatta's former home. It's visually stunning with Himalayan vistas, but plays like every other payload map - chokepoints, high ground battles, and overtime coin flips. Pretty but predictable.

Balance Roulette Spins Again

Season 2 brought the nerf hammer:

  • Sojourn's railgun finally got toned down after dominating Season 1
  • Doomfist got buffs (still useless)
  • Ana, Bastion, and Mercy got tweaks
  • Junker Queen's Mythic skin costs $40+ to fully unlock (working as intended)

The Omnic Crisis

Season 2 set the monetization tone for Overwatch 2's future - new heroes locked behind grind or payment. Ramattra himself is fantastic, a complex tank that rewards mastery. But locking heroes in a competitive game? That's the real villain origin story.

Winter Wonderland returned December 13, offering nostalgia for when events meant free skins instead of $20 bundles. Progress.
