OW2 Season 7: Sombra Gets Virus.exe and Diablo Invades

Season 7: Rise of Darkness launched October 10, completely breaking Sombra and adding a Diablo crossover nobody asked for but everyone secretly wanted. After Season 6's PvE paywall controversy, at least this content's actually free.

Sombra.exe Has Stopped Working

The purple hacker got gutted and rebuilt. Opportunist passive? Gone. Stealth on command? Now it's automatic when you're not shooting or taking damage. Like a really aggressive game of hide and seek.

Virus is her new projectile ability - a damage-over-time skillshot that melts hacked targets twice as fast. 100 damage over 2 seconds on hacked enemies turns squishies into deleted files. Combined with her SMG, Sombra went from annoying mosquito to actual assassin.

Translocator teleports instantly on landing now. No more throwing it, waiting, then engaging. Aggression rewarded, cowardice punished. The Sombra mains who lived in their backline are malding while the ones who actually fought are thriving.

Trials of Sanctuary: When Overwatch Met Diablo

Blizzard's first real crossover mode drops you into a co-op demon-slaying brawl. Six heroes cosplaying as Diablo classes:

  • Demon Hunter Sombra (ironic given her rework)
  • Barbarian Zarya (basically herself)
  • Night Raven Illari (sun priest goes goth)
  • Cleric Lifeweaver (heals but edgy)
  • Imperious Reinhardt (more armor? Heck yes!)
  • Inarius Pharah (justice rains from Hell)

It's PvE that doesn't cost $15. Progress.

Halloween Terror Returns (Again)

Junkenstein's Revenge and Wrath of the Bride come back for their annual appearance. Same modes, same strategy, new rewards. The Moira Lilith skin legitimately slaps - full demon mommy energy that makes her damage orb spam feel thematic.

Map Updates That Matter

Samoa joins the control rotation. Tropical paradise with actual high ground variety and flanking routes that don't take 45 seconds to traverse. Already better than Lijiang Tower.

Route 66 got attacker spawn protection so you don't get spawn-camped by the enemy Widowmaker who definitely has a gaming chair. Small change, massive quality of life improvement.

Balance Reality Check

  • Mei's Deep Chill passive removed after making her mandatory for two seasons
  • Zarya barriers partially unnerfed because tanks need to actually tank
  • Orisa still unkillable, Ramattra still feast-or-famine
  • Cassidy got another damage nerf (drink!)

Season 7 Verdict

Sombra's rework fundamentally changed her from "annoying" to "lethal," which improves match quality even if Sombra players are divided. Trials of Sanctuary proves Overwatch PvE can be fun when it's not paywalled. Halloween Terror remains reliable yearly content.

The "Rise of Darkness" theme barely connects to anything, but who cares when the gameplay changes actually improve the experience? First season in a while that feels like a step forward instead of sideways.

Just prepare for Virus spam in every match until the inevitable nerf.
