D4 Season 7: The Tree of Whispers Lost Its Heads (Literally)

Season of Witchcraft launched January 21, 2025, with possibly the weirdest premise yet. The Tree of Whispers' heads have gone rogue, running around Sanctuary building makeshift bodies out of whatever garbage they find. Yes, really. After Season 6's Hatred Rising disappointment, at least this one's trying something different.
The Armory Finally Arrives
Before we talk about decapitated tree heads, let's address the elephant in the room. The Armory is here. That basic feature every ARPG has had since 2010? Yeah, Diablo 4 finally got it. Save your builds, swap between them without manually moving every item and paragon point. Revolutionary stuff.
Class specialization quests are now account-bound too. Complete the Necromancer quest once, and every future Necro skips straight to the good stuff. Small mercies.
Three Schools of Magic Nonsense
Season 7 introduces witch powers you can slap onto any class:
Gelena's Psyche - The defensive option. Aura of Lament slows enemies while feeding you resources. Vengeful Spirit summons a damage sponge that explodes for 750% weapon damage. Solid for HC players who hate fun.
Caidin's Growth and Decay - DoT central. Poison frogs that explode on death, shadow damage that lingers, the usual "watch health bars slowly tick down" gameplay. Pairs well with coffee breaks.
Eldritch - Pure destruction magic. Details sparse, but presumably makes things go boom faster than the other schools.
Headhunts: The New Grind
The seasonal activity involves hunting down these rogue heads for the Tree of Whispers. They're basically enhanced Whisper bounties with better rewards. Kill special enemies, get crafting materials for Occult Gems, rinse and repeat until April.
At least the Ancestral Collection cache guarantees one ancestral item now. Only took seven seasons to make endgame bounties worth doing.
The Real Question
Is it worth coming back? If you're burned out on Diablo 4's seasonal model, probably not. The core loop hasn't changed - you're still grinding the same dungeons for marginally better loot. But if you've been waiting for the Armory to experiment with builds, or you're genuinely curious about murder-hobo tree heads, Season 7 offers enough novelty for a few weeks.
The extended runtime (through April 15, possibly April 29) suggests Blizzard knows this one's thin on content. But hey, at least we can save our builds now. Progress.
Season 7 runs through April 15, 2025. Battle pass includes the usual cosmetics nobody asked for.
