"You are no longer a Vault Hunter." This is how the trailer for the new Borderlands 4 started. And although story wise it is technically true, Borderlands 4 releases on September 11th, 2025, and plays out much like fans are used to. Shoot, Reload, Loot and Kill. With four new Vault Hunters and several returning characters, exploring new zones will be another blast!

Borderlands 4 Editions: Standard, Deluxe and Super Deluxe

Borderlands 4 releases at September 11th, 2025 and releases with three versions, each can be purchased from Steam, Epic or Boderlands 4 official website. Each version provides more content then the last. Either zones, weapon skins or even more Vault Hunters (later) to choose from, more money means more content.

  • The Standard Edition of course provides the base game, giving players up to 25 hours of content for the main campaign. This content can quickly take over 50+ hours when a full playthrough and even side quests are done. But even after that, the base game also adds some Post Playthrough Content in the form of Ultimate Hunter Mode which will test your skills even further.
  • The Deluxe Edition adds the Firehawk's Fury Weapon Skin and the Bounty Pack Bundle, which consists of four DLCs coming out later. In these DLCs should be several more areas, Vault Cards, Challenges, Gear, Weapons, Cosmetics and Vehicles. Enough to do another play through later or continue with an already decked out max level character.
  • The Super Deluxe Edition of course contains all the extra DLCs from thew Deluxe Edition, but also adds two more. These two DLCs will add even more story missions, map regions and an absurd amount of cosmetics. But above all that, the most interesting is that the Super Deluxe Edition will also add two new, currently unannounced Vault Hunters to play. New abilities, new skills and new voicelines included.

Borderlands 4 Playable Vault Hunters

As with every other Borderlands game, this new installment will of course feature several playable characters, each with different abilities and talents. Four are currently playable, Vex the Siren, Rafa the Exo-Soldier, Amon the Forgeknight and Harlowe the Gravitar. Later on, two more currentrly unannounced Vault Hunters will be added for those who have bought the Super Deluxe Edition already, but these will also be available seperately later on when they are released.

Vex the Siren

After a roigh upbringing, which was made even harder due to her Siren powers, Vex had to take care of herself and scrape to get by. Although she is a salty pessimist, Vex, as an Empath, still believes in helping people, especially if it means taking care of nasty people. Vex can either summon minions to fight for her, or empower herself with her phase energy.

Rafa the Exo-Soldier

Due to living in microgravity, Rafa has a severely deminished muscle abd bone density. But with a mind thatcwants to explore, he traded a toir of duty for Tediore, so that he would reveive a bew type of exoskeleton. Sadly, Tediore never kept their end thwir promise and his service never ended. So now he is in the run with his Deadframe Exoskeleton, which contains a arm cannon, shoulder canon and Arc-Knives.

Amon the Forgeknight

Raised in a Vault moster-worshipping cult, Amon was the only survivor when the monster turned on everyone. He dedicated his life to killing as many of these monsters as he could find. Amon is as much a story bard as he is a warrior, often showing a warm attitude and offering advice to his comerads in battle. He is a highly customizable tank with weaponized drones, able to adapt to any situation. With Forge Shield and Forge Axe, no one is safe when he gets too close.

Harlowe the Gravitar

Harlowe looks like a merge between Lucio and Zarya from Overwatch, both in appearance and technical and sciency background and is driven by the need to understand how things work. As a combat tecnician and scientist, Harlowe brings new gadgets and tech to the battlefield. Her love for life makes her able to enhance the survivability of anyone or crownd control opponents for a while.

Borderlands 4 NPCs: New & Returning Characters

As fans are used too, there will be an abundant amount of named NPCs that will either come to help or haunt you. From friendly vendors or questgivers to bosses that will try to deminish your wellbeing to the lowest possible standard. There are even some fan favorite ones returning from other games. Mad Moxxi, again voice acted by Brina Palencia, the owner of multiple bars on Pandora returns to look pretty and be deadly as always. CL4P-TP, the general purpose robot, also known as Claptrap returns to torment your mind with bad jokes, weird comments and major brag throughout the game.
